This year many South American countries celebrate their 200 years of independence, a time of glory a time to check in which fields South American countries shown progress and in which ones they show a delay of decades.

Many aspects deserve to be recognized  as, for example, the stabilization of democracy (with few exceptions), the end of dictatorial governments, a great economic improvement, big reduction in poverty levels,  and so on.

On the educational side many countries shown a steady improvement in coverage, however quality needs to be checked, nations like Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia shows a big improvement in their coverage standards.

Access to 21st century technologies are now better that in the past few years, however, decades of corruption and political conflicts left a region behind the rest of the world in the area of technological awareness.

For this celebration many countries have established Web sites with useful information about the 200 years of independence, and some of them even created special government divisions to cover all aspects of this celebration; I will mention some of them.

·         http://www.bicentenarioindependencia.gov.co:  Web site created by Colombian administration for bicentennial anniversary. A governmental entity, it has videos, schedule of bicentennial related activities, interviews, news related to the celebration, notes of support from companies and private groups that joins the celebration historical information and more.  It is good Web site, organized, with easy-to-read links. It provides a good feeling of what is going on with this celebration with one quick view of the Web site; however it takes some time to fully load, text in some sections is not properly distributed, and it has not been publicized.

·         http://www.albicentenario.com/: A private Web site dedicated to inform about this celebration in Colombia and other countries, it is intended to educate and criticize the actual state of society. It has links to official Web sites dedicated to the celebration.

·         http://www.ecultura.gob.mx/bicentenario/latinam/?lan: A Mexican Web site dedicated to the promotion of the bicentennial celebration of independence of Latin-American countries, it has links to most of the Web sites each country created for this event, easily read with RSS service.
