A Cloud Native Computing Foundation survey of 1,337 managers and practitioners found that most software developer outfits are delivering weekly or faster releases.

Daily release cycles climbed from 15% in 2018 to 27% in 2019, and weekly release cycles rose from 20% to 28%; hybrid models increased from 25% to 41%, due to greater availability of continuous integration/continuous delivery tools, DevOps, and agile techniques.

However, the survey found no growth in full-on release automation, with only about 40% of developers adopting this model for both 2018 and 2019.

Manual releases, meanwhile, declined from 27% to 14%, and more than 50% of observed projects constituted more than half of cloud use in production.
